Part 2 of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, The Great Liberation presents a vividly detailed account of the contents of the "Book of the Dead" and of the traditional Buddhist teachings on compassion and the search for truth which are its foundations. The film observes an elderly priest and his young student as they guide the soul of a recently deceased man into the afterlife. The soul's progress is envisioned through the sequence of traditional rituals, interwoven with imaginative animation by Academy Award-nominated animator, Ishu Patel.
