An extraordinary human story of the world's most successful Yiddish-language newspaper, the Jewish Daily Forward. From its founding in 1897, the Forward served not only as a source of information, but also as a teacher and counselor to hundreds of thousands of immigrants. During its heyday in the 1920's it boasted a quarter of a million readers nationwide and was considered a major metropolitan daily paper. Today, with few Yiddish-speaking readers, the Forward's circulation and its future is uncertain. Yet it goes on, published as a weekly by a small staff of aging, indomitable, Yiddish speaking men.
