The story of a seven-year old boy, a minister's son, growing up in a small Southern town in the late 1950's. It is a troubled time when there is considerable tension between blacks and white. David is too innocent to be fully aware of such things, but racial discrimination begins to color his sheltered life. The film captures that moment when a young boy realizes that the world can be filled with injustice. David learns to deal with racial prejudice on his own terms and recognizes that there are causes even a child can stand up for.
