A story for young adults about a girl who is pressured to become more feminine as she approaches puberty.

The last day of the 1948 summer is a day eleven year-old Kath can be all the things she wants to be--pirate captain, Tarzan, or marble champion. However, because she's entering the sixth grade on Monday, her mother has decided that Kath must become "a girl," getting her pigtails cut off and a perm in her hair. Kath's father, who helped Kath build her clubhouse and taught her to play ball, is caught in the middle.

This beautifully reminiscent film captures the heart of small town America while transcending both time and place. All audiences will enjoy this genuine tale of conformity and growing pains.
